We've got a few special screenings this year—out-of-competition films that we've added to our schedule.

 

 

D

Anjo, a life insurance sales agent, meets a potential client named "D". D has a special ability to spot a lie, and discovers Anjo has committed a crime and is trying to cover it up. Thus begins his conquest for the truth. As D follows the lies of everyone he meets, he gets closer to the heart of the truth, or what he thinks is the truth. Will the true intention of D be revealed when he discovers the truth behind Anjo's crime? And who is D really?

Kyoto Nocturnes: Elegant Slaughter
Producer/Director/Writer: John Foster 
Boss Watanabe is clinging to his sanity and control of Kyoto's yakuza after Boss Aihara massacres most of his men in a sneak attack. Holed up in a dingy bar with Uchida, his lieutenant, Watanabe starts to see the mutilated ghosts of his dead soldiers. The specters blame him for their deaths, and they want revenge. Terrorized by both his inner demons and the threat that Aihara's thugs will find him at any minute, Watanabe has only one way out: he hires K, an alluring American hit woman, to assassinate Aihara. For the right price, K will kill anyone. Even her own client.

The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello
Producer: Julia Lucas; Director: Anthony Lucas; Writer: Mark Shirrefs
Set in a world of iron dirigibles and steam powered computers, this gothic horror mystery tells the story of Jasper Morello, a disgraced aerial navigator who flees his plague-ridden home on a desperate voyage to redeem himself. Starring the voice talents of Joel Edgerton, Helmut Bakaitis, and Tommy Dysart.
Animated Fantasy*, Australia, 26 min

(Since it screened at Dragon*Con 2005, Jasper Morello has played at SunDance and been nominated for an Academy Award.  We thought you could use another opportunity to catch it.)
